We Appreciate Our Volunteers
At Hillandale, our administrators work diligently with parents and faculty to foster an atmosphere that promotes a learning community characterized by child centered instruction and decisions, academic excellence, trust, respect, community involvement, excellent communications, and recognition of both student and staff achievements.
Volunteers are very powerful allies in every child's education. Hillandale has a wide range of activities and projects to involve every volunteer.
If you are interested in donating your time or talents to Hillandale and its students, please contact an administrator, the PTA, or a faculty member.
Purpose of the School Volunteer Program
School volunteers enable teachers to provide students with individualized instruction and enrichment activities by offering them volunteers to assist in classrooms, thereby allowing teachers to give special attention to students needing more help. Additionally, volunteer partnerships offer the following opportunities:
1. To strengthen school-community relations by providing a menu of opportunities for interested parents and community members to participate effectively in school programs.
2. To help parents and community members learn more about District and school objectives/programs.
3. To introduce school volunteerism to corporations holding a personal stake in the success of our students and the future workforce.
4. To broaden students’ experiences through interaction with volunteers by providing adult role models to assist the students with tutoring and mentor opportunities.
Volunteer Forms
In order to provide a safe environment to our students and staff, Durham Public Schools requires every volunteer to complete a volunteer form allowing Durham Public Schools to perform a criminal background check. The forms can be downloaded at www.dpsnc.net or can be distributed by the school receptionist. Please note, all individuals must be granted approval by Durham Public Schools prior to volunteering.
